A woman was left stunned after finding a ‘secret compartment’ in her washing machine – and it’s left people on social media baffled.
Staci Hunt came across a small card-sized hole containing a removable piece of plastic in the drawer of her Hotpoint washing machine.
It took her a while to work out what it was for, but when she did work it out she discovered it’s extremely handy.
She took to Mrs Hinch inspired Facebook group to share her discovery and other members were in awe.
She wrote: “Did anyone else know this, I have only found out that that’s where it goes when you’re not using it.”
Although a number of people said they had the feature too, they admitted they didn’t know what it was for.
One said: “What does it do?”
Another wrote: “Checking our washing machine.”
And a third added: “I use mine for my powder.. So I don’t put too much in.”
The feature, which is common among Hotpoint machines, is used to help customers easily measure liquid to stop you from wasting any.
Staci was as equally stunned as fellow group members as she wrote: “I found this out the other week and I couldn’t believe it.
“I just kept it in the liquid draw for ages and always wondered why my washer wasn’t working as it should! I found as soon as I moved it my washer now smells fresh!
“Think it must of been stopping the water and some product flowing out properly.”
Another person, who’d also worked it out, wrote: “It’s to control the dosage measure when using liquid detergent.”
A Hotpoint user manual online confirmed that the feature is used to help with detergent loss.
The company says: “If powder detergent is used, place the partition into slot B – slot B being the aforementioned ‘secret’ compartment.
“If liquid detergent is used, it is recommended that the removable plastic partition A (supplied) be used for proper dosage.”
